FEC approves N28.8b for repair of federal roads nationwide

THE Federal Executive Council (FEC) Wednesday approved a total of N28.77 billion for rehabilitation and
reconstruction of federal roads across the country.

The council also approved a total of 28 projects worth N98.5 billion for execution in nine states by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). The projects, ranging from construction of roads, bridges, erosion, land reclamation, education and power supply, are expected to be completed between now and 2014.

Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, told journalists after the meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan that the presentation and approval of the road construction and rehabilitation contracts followed the President’s directive to the Federal Ministry of Works to rehabilitate all the major federal roads ahead of Christmas and New Year mass movement of people in the country.

The President said the Ministry of Works should take advantage of the window of opportunity provided by the dry season, which is favourable for road construction, and provide Nigerians good roads.
