Arepo pipeline explosion: long queues return to fuel stations

NNPC Pipeline Explosion at Arepo, Ogun State

LONG queues have returned to various filling stations in Lagos State and its environs due to vandalism and subsequent explosion of pipelines belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) at the
weekend in Arepo, Ogun State, where several lives were lost.

No fewer than 30 persons suspected to be  vandals died in the inferno that engulfed the area at the weekend. The remains of the dead suspects could not be retrieved from the river because some of them had been washed to other communities near Arepo, according to residents of the community.

Some filling stations visited by The Nigerian Indicator at Oregun, Maryland and on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway today all have long queues which observers alluded to panic buying of excess fuel and keeping reserves by the public, leading to long queues at these stations.

An attendant at Mobil filling station who pleaded anonymity blamed the queue on panic buying as a result of the vandalized pipeline at Arepo.

“People started rushing for fuel because of the news of vandalized pipeline in Arepo at the weekend,” he said.
