A retired university don, Ayola Oyesiji, 62 years old, is at present being questioned at the Agugu Division of
the Oyo State Police Command over suspicion that he might have drowned his two-year-old step daughter, Aishat Mohammed, in a bucket of water, after his wife refused him sex.
The incident, which happened on Friday at Atipe area of Ibadan, followed a disagreement between the man and his 22-year-old wife, Barakat Akeem, over sex.
A source disclosed to The Nigerian Indicator that “the woman is nursing a two-month-old baby for the retired lecturer, while Aisha was born before she married him in December 2011.
“She lives in Oyesiji’s family house at Atipe where the man visits and it was on one such visits on Friday that he insisted on having sex with his wife despite her still being a nursing mother and menstruating.”
His insistence was said to have made Barakat flee the house and she raised alarm, which attracted neighbours.
Another source said when the fight over sex started, Barakat fled the house, leaving behind her two-year-old daughter, Aishat who was sound asleep in the room while her two-month-old baby was being tended by a neighbour.
“Following her plea with neighbours to help rescue her daughter, they forced the door of the room open and were shocked to discover the body of little Aishat in a half-filled bucket of water in the unlit room.
“This development infuriated the neighbours who attacked the retired lecturer with different objects, beating him to coma before the police arrived the scene and rescued him".
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration, Mr. Clement Adoda, confirmed that the body of the girl had been deposited in a morgue for autopsy, adding that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku for further investigations.
However, Oyesiji who was taken to a private hospital for treatment for injuries sustained during the attack on him has reportedly said he only wanted to prevent the girl from running about, by putting her in a bucket which unknown to him, contained water.
He had taught at the University of Ibadan before transferring his services to the University of Ilorin in 1996 from where he retired.
